So I am here in Indianapolis and ready to attend the printing industry of America Continuous Improvement conference. I got up early and did some remote work on our servers (as I double as the IT Manager & toilet cleaner in my spare time). I then walked down from my hotel to the Marriott Conference center; walking past the Indians’ baseball stadium, stopping to watch a few players working out before moving on toward the conference.
My expectations are both high and low. High because I am hoping to learn about the “How to Hit One Out of The Park” and low, because I know that at conferences they never have enough time to really “reach” into the details of the issues (who can in one-hour sessions). That being said I am looking forward to rubbing shoulders with other printing business owners and managers that are either on the journey or are just starting.
Throughout my career I have found that learning brings out the best in me as it makes me think about the challenges in front of us and deal with them. When done away from the pressure of work it allows you (me) the time to think abstractly… with what if’s and why can’t we thought’s going through my head, I often come away with some really good well thought out ideas to take back an implement.
So that’s what I am hoping I will gain here… A “home run” would be great. But I will settle for the nucleus of good ideas to build upon and to bring back to Coastal, so we can run the bases and create runs, working as an efficient and profitable TEAM!
